The Christian Church of Perkins
Sam White, Minister .......
The Christian Church of Perkins invites everyone,to come and wor-
ship this Sunday as.our minister, Sam White, preaches from Acts
17:16-34. The Apostle Paul brings Christianity to a group of people
who are already convinced they know all there is to know about reli-
gion. Come explore his exciting words with us!
This past Sunday, we looked at Acts 17:1-3. The apostle Paul has
been preaching in Thessalonica for three Sabbaths in a row and he
sums up his sermons with one phrase: "This Jesus I am proclaiming
to you is the Christ." What is the significance of that proclamation?
The Jews had been looking, since the beginning of the world, for a
Messiah--someone who would throw off the bondage they had faced
under the Syrians, Greeks and Romans. But Paul tells them the
Messiah (or "Christ," in Greek) didn't come to conquer like a military
leader but to die and rise again. The Jews had been looking for politi-
cal and military solutions to their problems, but Paul points out that
their real problem--in fact the real problem of all mankind--is sin.
To be relieved from that problem, they need the perfect sacrifice that
only Jesus could give them.
Paul's proclamation is significant to them and to us because he is
telling us that the biggest problem that any of us face--sin, and the
way it separates us from God--has now been remedied by Jesus of
Nazareth, the Christ.

Thp. attendance was 256, the weather beautiful and it was perfect
timing to be having the Lord's Supper. We had a good testimony by
Steve Smith, one of our guest speakers. The choir sang "A Shield
About Me" and this fitted into Pastor Albert May's sermon preceding
taking the elements in Communion. While the elements were passed,
Sandy Grider sang"I Am" and everyone was pleased to hear her beau-
tiful voice. Jeff Gammill sang "Were You There?" and did a tremen-
dous job. It was truly a beautiflfl service as we did this in Christ's
memory and as he instructed us.
In the Evening Service, we,were privileged to hear Albert May's
former instructor, Dr. Mack Roark. Dr. Roark is not a stranger to this
area as he had once served the church at Carney.
Dr. Roark spoke on the 6th chapter of Isaiah, one of the most
preached-on scriptures in the Bible. Isaiah spoke of the unforget-
table time he saw God and how the sight was so awesome, how the
posts of the door moved at the voice of him. Several things hap-
pened, seeir g the seraphims and all this made him ashamed to even
be in God's sight. In verse 8, the Lord said, "Whom shall I send?" and
who will go for us? Isaiah said, I, here am I; send me." The Lord
gave instruction as to what to expect from these people he would
