Near record-setting lain altered the plan for Rockin' M Cowboy
Church to hold its Sunday moming services at the Penkins Roundup
Club Arena this past Sunday. But the rain did not stop B. J. Jordan
of Crossroads Horse lVfinistry from speaking a Word from the
Lord to a listening crowd at the Old Church in Tenitofial Plaza.
Crossroads is a faith based ministry that travels the United States
putting on lxrtsemamhip clinics, ranch roping clinics, colt stat g
events, and working dog demonstrations. These demonstxations
are Used to portray our relationship with God our Creator. The
Jordan family rims cattle in Walden, Colorado, in the summer and
is based out of Missouri in the winter while they tlavel presenting
clinics. One simple, yet profound quote from Jordan's message
was, "If you want something different in your life, you have to do
something different in your life" New plans will be made to have
B. J. and his family back again at a later date with an expectation
of being outside at the arena.
Next Sunday, April 24, the Sunday moming service at Rockin'
M will include a Child Dedication. While it is commonly called a
Child Dedication,in reality, this is a "Parent Dedication". One main
focus in this special time is giving thanks to the Lord for the gift of
this new life. The other main focus is on a mutual commilment by
the parents and church family joining together to pray, seek, and
give of themselves for the sph-itual development of this child's life.
Foundations laid eady in life become the stepping stones for future
personal decisions of faith in Jesus. This will be an exalting time
for everyone involved!

Divine Might
Matthew, Mark and Luke tell of Jesus' power over the elements
and demons. Iris demonsW on of power, a teaching experience
for all, showing God's greatness. Jesus and his disciples entera

asleep. A storm rolls in and then" boat begins to fill with water.
As the water's height climbs so does their fear, convincing them
they're in jeopardy.Awakening Jesus; be illmaedi ly rebukes the
wind saying, "Pea , be still" The winds obey; becoming calm.
He rams to the disciples and asks,"Why are ye so fearful? Howis
it ye have no faith? The Bible doesn't give their answer, but says
they wonder at what manner of man even the winds and sea obey?
Upon leaching Gadarenes, Matthew says Jesus was met by two
men possessed by demons. Mark and Iafl e.only record one. This
man was possessed for a long time, wore no clothes and wondered
the tombs. Spying Jesus he cries OUt and falls down before
him shouting," What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of
the GOd laX high. I beseech thee, torment me not" Jesus had
commanded"come of the man, thou unclean spirit." Asking,
"What is thy name?" The demon answers, "Legion: for we're
many" At this time period a legion was a Roman army unit con-
sisting upwards of 6000 soldiers. It's hard to determine how many
demons control him.
They ask Jesus not to send them into the Abyss; known in Rev-
elation as the final destination of Satan. Requesting entrance into
a herd of swine feeding on the hillside. Jesus glanted their request
and they entered them. Immediately the swine raced downhill out
into the sea, drowning in the watery Abyss.

'My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me "' On
this Sunday, the gospel departs flom appem-am ofthe
Christ. The focus of the gospel is one the relationship of the disciples
with Christ. All throe readings today speak of Jesus in a way that
is radicaUyunique. Thereis no special group before GOd. Asthe
reading from revelation says," a great multitude that no one could
count from every nation, race, people and tongue,' are gathered to
praise Cod. In a word, the Resunected Christ goes beyond any
specific culture or people; He is universal, present to all people.
One thing is nxtuinxi, to hear his voice and follow. What is this
VO'lCe,Tnahitself. Embracing lluth is difficultbecause it requires a
person to gobeyondtheir own opinions and mentalcommxXs. The
voice of Christ leads us into the unity that is called Iris Body, the
Communion of Saints, the Church. Our relationship to the Risen
Lord is fully realized when is goes beyond an individual, personal,
relationship. It is complete when we understand our primmy iden-
tity as members of the Body-cells- of this singular entity called the
Body of Christ. AS the Father and Son are one in the bond of the
Holy Spirit, so the ultimate effect of listening to the voice of Christ
is the very same unity that has the Holy Spirit-Love Itself- as our
binding force. Let us find the Troth by recogni g who we maly
are, memhe of the One Body of Christ.
I am announcing, along with Fr. Smart, that he is being transferred
to St. Bridget Parish in Talalequah. Northeast State University of
Oklahoma (NSU) is a growing university and Fr. Smart is needed
to energize the carnpus nainistry there. The official date of Wansfer
has not yet been announced, it will probably be in June or July. Fr.
Keny Wakulich, who is cunently chaplain of the University of
Tulsa, will take Fr. Smart's place as pastor of St. John University
Parish. I know Fr. Kerry weU,he is a good priest who will continue
to invigorate the ministly at St. John. Fr. Stuart and I have
been good friends since before his ordination. I regret to see him
go,but I know he will do good things in Tahlequah. It is ilntX lant
to note that the oment plan of tmificafion of the two parishes into
one palish in a new facility will be continued as planned. AS we
wish Fr. Smart a fond farewell, we welcome Fr. Kerry with joy
and affection.
Those Snippy Texans
Awhile back, I printed some snippy comments about
Oklahomans offered by a popular writer in Austin, Texas, ;
and asked you to provide some sassy responses. I have
enough material now to fill a book. Let me share some of
the "stuff' I've got that is printable.
"If the Kings English was good enough for Jesus, it's
good enough for me." Ma Ferguson (first
woman governor of Texas 1920
Q. How can you tell a Texan is married? A. There is
dried chewing tobacco on both sides of his
pickup.
All states are invested by a class of noisy second rate"
men who favor rash and extreme actions, but
Texas has been over-ran with such men as their hero and"
first president, Sam Houston.
Old Dallas Cowboy quarterback, Don Meredith, about
his coach, Tom Landry: "If he was married to
Raquel Welch, he'd expect her to cook."
"If ignorance goes to forty dollars a barrel, I want drilling,
rights to George Bush's head." and when
told that Bill Clinton was studying Spanish, "Oh good.'
Now he'll be hi-ignorant." Texas Commissioner
of Agriculture, Jim Hightower.
Q. Why did the Texas chicken cross the road? A. To
prove to an armadillo that it could be done.
The difference between a Yankee zoo and a Texas zoo
is that the Yankee zoo will have the name of
the animal and the scientific name in Latin, while the Texas
zoo will have the name of the animal and the recipe.
News Flash-Bryan, Texas: When a small two-seater
Cessna 152 plane, piloted by two Texas A & M
University students crashed in a cemetery-near College
Station, Texas rescue workers recovered 300
bodies so far and expect the number to grow as digging
continues through the night.
A Texan took a visiting Englishman duck hunting,
When the Texan shot a high flying duck, and it
kept on going, the Texan said, "Well Limey, You're
witnessing a miracle. Thor flies a dead duck."
When a Texas State Trooper pulled over a rusty old'
pickup driven by an old cowboy from a big West
Texas ranch and said, "Hey, Old Timer, you were doing
90mph. You got an ID?", the old cowboy
replied, '"'bout what?'
You know you're from Texas when: you measure dis-
tance by minutes, directions include, "down
yonder," the preacher wears Levis and boots, you know'
a guy who ate a 72oz steak and got paid for it,
you realize asphalt has a liquid state, homeless people
have bi-lingual signs, if you don't have cable, you have
channels 5, 7, and a whole bunch of channels in Spanish.
In Texas, you can see further and see less than any
place in the country.
Did you hear about the Olde who bought an outhouse
and figured he'd make money by renting the
basement to a Texan?
Someone offered that the best thing about Texas is that
it is the only state that can legally secede from
the union, and the worst thing is that it hasn't.
Here are some of the silly laws that Texas has passed.
Some are still on the books. 1. When two trains meet
each-other at a railroad crossing, each shall come to a full
stop, and neither shall proceed until the other has gone.
2. It is illegal to drive without windshield wipers. (You
don't need windshields, but you must have the wipers.).
3. It is illegal to shoot a buffalo from the second floor
of a hotel. 4. In Abilene, it is illegal to loiter anyplace
within the corporate limits of the city for the purpose of
flirting. 5. In Austin it is illegal to carry wire cutters in
your pocket. 6. You can be legally married by publicly
introducing a person as your husband or wife three times.
7. In Port Arthur, obnoxious odors may not be emitted
while in an elevator.
Well, maybe that's enough for now.
