Ben left his father, one
brother and one sister to
mourn his departure as his
mother proceeded him some
11 years before, to go to the
World above. The remains
were taken to Stillwater for
burial on Tuesday, where he
"was placed beside his mother.
The accident was very sad
for the people of Coyle as they
had not been in the Territory
long enough to become ad-
justed to the other forms of
hardships and to face the
world with such a sudden loss
seemed to be too much for
many. The loss was too much
for the family and the Cimar-
ron Valley Bank was sold and
the family moved to Perkins
and ai~r a few years, all went
back to Iowa.
This was the first fatal ac-
cident to happen in the saloon
as not too long aider this, one
other fatal accident happened
to a local man while he was
setting on one of the stools
drinking a glass of cold sar-
saparilla. (Many will question
this as most have seen too
many western T.V. pictures
where only alcohol drinks
were served in a saloon. This
saloon in Coyle was operated
by a man and his wife. No
rough stuff was permitted
and many ladies were seen
in the saloon to take advan-
tage of the cool air and the
ice cold drinks. The local
people knew the sarsaparilla
plant and cut this to be used

Crash of 1929. Not long al er
the bank closing, the con-
tents were auctioned off to
be of some help to settle the
demands by the people.
Walter Johnson, my dad,
was the auctioneer and many
people wanted to purchase a
souvenir or keepsake. One
of the banks in Perkins
bought several items, includ-
ing the large adding machine.
This was brought to Coyle by
the Higbee family as they
wanted all the luxury pos-
sible. By luck, that old
beveled glass covered
Burroughs adding machine is
on display in the Perkins
Museum by my compliments.
Some of the pieces were sold
in an auction in Coyle, not
very many months ago--but
the prices of the pieces were
far beyond my grasp.
There are still many look-
ing for a few of the old pieces
or items of Coyle or any other
town for that matter to hang

few towns in Oklahoma that

The Ozark Trail. Many of the
readers of The Journal do not
realize the road from Tulsa
to Oklahoma City was "The
Ozark Trail." When the pave-
ment was completed, the
number 33 took the place
of the Old Ozark Trail. That
"trail" followed the section
line as much as possible and
no gravel was added to hold
some of the mud and sand.
Many a farmer worked out
his Pole Tax on the old Ozark
Trail. How many of you can
remember that type of labor?
