:.Tl is.was a.c Stm dayfor btrptism and wewe : leasantly
surprised to see there were six to add to our membership.
The orchestra played "Sing Hallelujah to His Name" plus accom-
panying our song service. Sandy Grider sang a solo entitled "I Love
You (that's what Calvary said). Sandy has a sweet voice and we hope
she will do this song again.
Pastor Albert May preached from Duet. 6:1-8, titled "Whetting
the Appetite." This was to encourage parents to set a good example
about going to church as parental influence is so important. If we
mess up, we need to give an apology to our children. When we get up
on a Sunday morning, we could tell the children we are going to church
like it is a pleasant place to be. In our church there is always some-
thing of interest so there should be no problem there. You might
present the church going to be a pleasant opportunity and say "This
is the morning we get to go to church." These teachings will follow
them in life and will be helpful to making life worthwhile.
In the evening service, our special solo was sung by Dana Th-
ompson and we loved it. Thank you, Dana.
Our evening message was done by Troy Withey who was serving
in the absence of Albert May. Albert is in Seminary and we wish him
well.
Troy took his message from Luke 15:11-31 concerning the Prodi-
gal Son. The young man wished to take his part of the inheritance so
he could go off and life a life of pleasure. Instead of pleasure, he soon
found his money, all spent and he took a job of feeding swine. The
snare of the enemy puts blinders on us and we need to be alert to turn
down temptation.
This son came home just wanting to be a servant. The Father
was so glad to see him that he gave him a royal welcome with a new
robe and he ordered the fatted calf to be prepared for a celebration.
By comparison, when we have been away from our Holy Father and
we finally return to him in submission we can be welcomed into God's
presence once more.
Thinking ahead to Bible School which has been dubbed the "Wild
and Wonderful Good News Stampede," and begins in five weeks.
Sharon and Claudia are looking for workers. We need 3s, 4s, 5s, and
2nd and 4th grade teachers. Also 5K class needs oatmeal boxes and 6
oz. juice cans.
Orville Everett says the Joy Travelers trip to Palo Verde Canyon
is booked up. About 30 people have signed up and if anyone backed
out it would be a surprise as this is a well recommended trip.
