club how to deal wit
The Perkins Roundup
Club has a way of dealing
with adversity and still
turning out a top—notch
rodeo.
The abundance of rain
that fell in the Perkins area
just days before last week-
end’s 67th annual event
didn’t have any effects of
the performances them-
selves. It only modified
how the organization was

came to a close.
The heavy rainfalls
in Perkins stopped soon
enough to give the club
time to get the arena
grounds ready. The arena
itself didn’t take much
work as it primarily has a
sandy base. While it may
have been damp in some
areas, there was no stand-
ing water that could have
caused some problems.
A good chunk of park—
ing in the northwest part
of the area was blocked
off because of a large pool
of standing water. That
problem was rectified with
parking fans in Emerson
Park and many of the horse
trailers at Dickson Park.
Both facilities are adjacent
to the rodeo grounds. Por—
table lighting was set up in
Emerson Park to help fans
safely find their vehicles
after each show.
“We were parking
people every place we
could find space for them,”
Werner said.
Remember last year the
COVID—19 pandemic had
forced the cancellations
of many events locally
and around the state. The
roUndup club made the
tough decision to continue
with the rodeo knowing
it could have been shut

ers and fans in and parked.
And in the end, everything
seemed to work out.
There didn’t seem to be
any doubt the rodeo would
go on according to PRUC
president Lynn Werner.
“We thought we would
have a rodeo in a monsoon
season but we made up our
minds that come Friday
night at 8 o’clock we were
going to sing the National
Anthem and have a rodeo,”
he said moments after Sat-
urday night’s performance
