DISTRICTS

Cushing as new members of
the group.
P-T head coach Lloyd
Wertman was part of the
seven-man committee that
drew up the new Class 3A
districts during last week's
Oklahoma Coaches Associ-
ation clinic in Tulsa. Wert-
man said he was pleased
with the way the Demons'
new district shaped up.
"I think it will be better
with all the teams centrally
located to each other,"
Wertman said earlier this
week. "We'll now play a
rival in Cushing and another
school with a rich football
tradition in Seminole."
Once the playoffs begin,
the new proposed district
will be matched up with
opponents from District
3A-4, which includes
teams from the southern
parts of Oklahoma. They
include Madill, Plainview,
Pauls Valley, Lone Grove,
Dickson, Purcell, Sulphur,
and Atoka.

P-T and Cushing had
always squared off in the
non-district portion of the
schedule for several years.
Because of the proposed
district setup, P-T will
still play four non-district
games. Jones and McLoud
are still on the non-district
and will be the first two
games, respectively. Ver-
digris will be the Week
3 opponent. P-T will also
have one other non-district
game.
There are 58 teams that
will make up Class 3A next
season. Six of the eight dis-
tricts will consist of seven
teams. The other two will
have eight; one on each
side of the state. Once the
new district assignments are
approved by the OSSAA,
Wertman said a meeting
will be held to finalize the
2012 and 2013 schedules.
Since P-T is in a seven-
team district, a fourth
non-district game will be
played. Wertman said it
will most likely be a team
coming from District 3A-
6. And he's hoping he gets
the luck of a draw to have
that game as the last regu-
lar season matchup much
like this year's game with
Beggs.
In Class 6A, the Stillwa-
tar Pioneers will be matched
up against several familiar
foes in their proposed new
district. SHS will be part
of District 6A,3 which
will include Tulsa Union,
Owasso, Enid, Ponca City,
Bixby, Sand Springs, and
Bartlesville.
The Guthrie Bluejays
will be part of District
5A-1 next season. That
district will also include
Midwest City Carl Albert,
Deer Creek, Oklahoma
City Bishop McGuinness,
El Reno, Western Heights,
Northwest Classen, and
Guymon.
Classes 6A, 5A, and 4A
each have four eight-team
districts.
In eight-man football,
Agra and Coyle will be
part of District B-3. Also
in that district are Welch,

Devin Kerns, a 2011 Stillwater High School graduate and
a four-year varsity player for the Lady Pioneers volleyball
team, was one of only three senior volleyball players in the
state to receive the 2011 Jesse Cooper Scholarship. It is
awarded by the Oklahoma Volleyball Coaches Association.
One student athlete, who exemplifies leadership, academic
excellence, and community service, is selected from Class
4A, 5A, and 6A volleyball teams to receive this award annu-
ally. The applicants were also required to write an essay on
what volleyball has meant to them in their life. Chad McKee,
President of the OKVCA, awarded the scholarship to Kerns
between the 5A and 6A matches at the Oklahoma All State
Games held at Broken Arrow High School last week. Pictured
with her award is Kerns and SHS volleyba!l head coach,
