A GRINGO IN MEXICO
ALLAN'S DOG
by Allan Wall
In 1984, my family was introduced to a breed of dog called the
Australian Blue Healer. It is a cow dog and it goes after a cow's heel
to chase her.
Now, on the Wall farm near Perkins, there are five of these heel-
ers. Our Perkins dogs came from Jack Lightfoot, Sr., David Pitts
and Jack and Joel Robbins.
Besides their cow-herding potential, Blue Heelers are clever, funny,
good pets and good with children. They aren't too big and don't eat
too much. They have been known to run up a tree or a cliff.
And now I have an Australian Blue Heeler of my own in Mexico;
and she was a gift from Lilia's cousin. This dog was born in Mexico,
and her name is Lluvia (pronounced Yuvia) which means "rain" in
Spanish. I speak to Lluvia in English, but I still call her Lluvia.
Like her counterparts in Perkins, Lluvia is intelligent, energetic
