Eden Chaw United Methodist
By Rev. John C, tis
Have you bef'n out to visit us yet? Well if you haven't,
then this S .nday is the right day. Yes we believe that
when you worship with us you will find a home here
on earth! We are that church on the hill in the country
that you have been looking for but just keep driving
by. Every Sunday morning we meet for Communion at
9am, then Family Style Worship (yes the children are
invited) at 9:30am and Sunday School at 1 lam.
It is the 16th Sunday after Pentecost Eden Chapel.
Pastor John will be continuing to teach his One Verse
Sermon Series from the New Testament Book of Reve-
lation 22:20 with the title being "Famous Last Words."
As we read this verse today, meditate on this awesome
event yet to come. And examine your life to make sure
you are ready and will not be ashamed at His coming.
The final words spoken by people are always intriguing.
Here we have the last promise in the Bible from the lips
of Christ and the last prayer of the Bible from the lips of
John. Now on the last page of the Bible, Jesus closes this
Book of all books with the idea of His return "Surely
I am coming quickly." And each generation since the
first century has been looking for "the Blessed Hope,"
His "glorious appearing". To fully understand where
we are in this major event, we need to know that the
Bible speaks of three (3) major events. Do you want to
know what they are? Come out and I will share them
with you !
We have great news at Eden Chapel we installed our
"Blessings Box!" It is located on the west end of our
parking lot and available to help! You ask "What is a
Blessings Box"? Well, it contains food and other items
to help you make it through the week or weekend when
you have a need but maybe not the means to fill it. All
you need to do is stop by and get what you need (free)
and then if later you can contribute back then do so (but
remember you don't have to!). There will always be
food, toothpaste, hand towels, and other items stocked
up, so please help yourself to what you need or help
others by leaving items! But above all else please be
blessed!
We hope to see you at Eden Chapel! You are always
invited on any Sunday to come out to Eden Chapel for
a visit and celebrate the living Christ with us! We are
located at the corner of 92nd Street and South Fair-
grounds road right outside of Perkins.

Rain! We'll take it! Fall is in the air, with holidays,
family and cooler weather, maybe.
We had a great day with God's forever family on
Sunday. Debbie Sanders played a piano offertory "He
Has Made Me Glad" and Bob Duke sang "His Name
is Wonderful" before the sermon on Sunday for those
/iil
who came to celebrate Jesus as Savior and Lord.
Brother Michael Cannon's message "The Good News"
was from Hebrews 4:1-13. Peter had reminded the
Hebrew Christians that Christ was supreme; He was
above Moses, their hero. The most important thing
now was to put Christ first in their lives; same for us.
Our relationship with Christ being priority in our daily
lives keeps sin at bay. We must remember Whose we
are and that our salvation is secure in Christ; we don't
keep it, He does. Do not get caught up in ACS: Amer-
ican Christian Syndrome - easy believe-ism. Change
should be evident in the life of a Christ follower. Do
you know for certain you will go to heaven when you
die? You can know: John 3:36!
Jim Bickell sang a favorite hymn, making it personal,
"How Long Has It Been/" before the evening sermon.
Bro. Mike continued our reading though Acts in chap-
ter 12. Acts is full of action as the early church dealt
with lots of situations in spreading the gospel message.
This chapter was exciting to see how God took a tragedy
and turned it into a miraculous event for Peter. The
church was praying for Peter and when he showed up
at the door of the prayer meeting, those praying were
surprised, but grateful. Why? We do the same thing
when we pray and He gives the answer according to His
will. Our great God still works today! Keep serving;
keep praying; Keep on Keepin' on!
The national event, See You at the Pole, takes place
Wed., Sept. 27,7:30am at P-T High & Middle Schools.
Students lead this prayer event; praying for classmates,
their schools, and their nation.
Come visit us at 2415 E 104,just a mile north of Per-
kins. Info: 547-1222, www.immanuelbaptistperkins.

An invitation is extended to you to be a part of
the activities of the church of Christ that meets at 1200
N. Lovers Lane. There are Bible classes for all ages at
9:00 Sunday morning and 7:00 Wednesday evening.
Worship on Sunday morning begins at 10:00.
Our condolences are extended to the Andrews' family
over the death of Richard Dodrill.
This past Sunday was a great day in the history of
the congregation. Two new deacons, Brent McDaniel
and Lyn Werner were selected to serve the church in
this capacity. They both received towels with the word
"diakonos" on them to signify the role of a "servant"
for the Lord Jesus and his church.
Jesus told his disciples the following about great-
ness: "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord
it over them, and their high officials exercise authority
over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants
to become great among you must be your servant, and
whoever wants to be first must be your slave - just as
the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many." Matthew

Sunday, our Pastor, Paul Dawson, brought a message
"The Advantage Plan" from John 16:1-15.
In his last moments with his disciples, Jesus warned
them of the world's hatred. In John 15:18-23, Jesus
warns, "When the world hates you, remember it hated
me before it hated you. The world would love you
if you belonged to it, but you don't. I chose you to
come out of the world so it hates you. Do you remem-
ber what I told you? 'A servant is not greater than the
master.' Since they persecuted me, naturally they will
persecute you. And if they had listened to me, they
would listen to you. The people of this world will hate
you because you belong to me, for they don't know
God who sent me. They would not be guilty if I had
not come and spoken to them. But now they have no
excuse for their sin. Anyone who hates me, hates the
Father, too."
In today's scripture, Jesus explains "I have told you
these things so that you won't fall away. For you
will be expelled from the synagogues, and the time is
coming when those who kill you will think they are
doing God a service (i.e. Saul condoning the murder of
Stephen). This is because they never knew the Father
or me. Yes, I'm telling you these things now, so that
when they happen, you will remember I warned you.
I didn't tell you earlier because I was going to be with
you a while longer. But now I'm going away to the
one who sent me, and none of you have asked where I
am going. Instead, you are very sad (disciples were
mostly concerned about what would become of them
if Jesus went away). But it is actually best for you that
I go away, because if I don't, the Holy Spirit won't
come. If I do go away, he will come because I will
send him to you.
But when he comes, he will convince the world of
it's sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming
judgment. The world's sin is unbelief in me. Righ-
teousness is available because I go to the Father, and
you will see me no more. Judgment will come because
the prince of this world has already been judged. Oh,
there is much more I want to tell you, but you can't
bear it now. When the Holy Spirit comes, he will guide
you in all truth. He will not be presenting his own
ideas; he will be telling you what he has heard. He
