A4 - THE PERKINS JOURNAL, Thursday, December 5, 2013 Opinions Perkins Finest My wife and I want to pay tribute to the Pefldns Police Depart- ment for their work in a recent theft case from our business. On Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, they were called by us when we notice our cargo trailer was missing. This trailer was used whenever we are doing a trade show. It housed ALL of our displays and accessories for the show. The Police were called around mid-aftemoon. They came quickly and took the report. Because of their professionalism and Iraining the officer guided us through the process, asked all the right questions. He left us with the feeling that they were on the case. The officer then released a broadcast about the theft and within 36 hours the trailer was recovered by the Oklahoma City Police Department and an individual arrested. I realize that sometime we get annoyed when we are stopped by or receive a citation from an officer. But one must remember that these men and women are highly wained and are motivated by their desire to help. They have a tough, thankless job but continue day after day providing services and protection to each of us. To the Perkins Police Department and all law enforcement agencies my wife and I say "Thank you." Steven and Gwen Harris Perkins ,i00ii00i:!f!":i,ii00i,i ::i:i ¸ :;; ......... The creators of You Tube were originally trying to create a dating site called Tune In To Hookup. Until Pope Gregory IX took over in 1227, babies were some- times baptized in beer. In Iceland, it's hard to come up with a creative name for a newborn. A government committee prevents parents from giving babies names it considers too weird. The earliest hockey games used frozen cow dung for pucks. The fastest non-manure slapshot zoomed at 110.3 mph. That's fast, but not as fast as the lightening bolt that struck Cleveland Indians pitcher Ray Caldwell in the 9th inning in 1919. Caldwell dusted it off, and retired the last batter for a 2-1 win. Another Cleveland Indian, Joe Sewell, used one bat his entire 14-year career. Tug-of-war was once an Olympic event. So was pigeon shooting and painting. A 2009 study found that when men interact with an attractive women, they become "cognitively impaired." Further studies found that the mere thought of talking to a pretty girl increases a man's likelihood of saying something really, really stupid. The average British man will drive an extra 276 miles because he's too stubborn to ask for directions. Maybe that's why some men fail to get their wives pregnant. Their swimming little semen fellows are too proud to ask for directions to the wive's correct address. In Nevada, "none of the above," is an option on ballots. In the past 20 years, Sweden's Donald Duck Party has tal- lied enough write-in votes to be the country's 9th most popular political organization. Meanwhile, the country's Left Party has campaigned to make men sit when they pee (the campaign isn't going very well.) Why are U.S. elections on Tuesy The day was ideal because it let people get to church on Sunckiy, ride to the county seat on Monday, and vote before Wednesday, also known as Market day. When James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader, was a child, he stuttered so badly that he refused to talk for almost eight years. Vice President Joe Biden also stuttered. One nun in junior high called him Master B-B-B-Biden. Classmates in Latin class called him Joe Impedimenta.
