Eden Chapel United Methodist
By Rev. John Curtis
We are open for worship, in-person at 11 a.m., so get
up, get dressed and come out to celebrate God with us
LIVE! Mask will not be required unless you feel you need
to wear one and social distancing will be left up to the
individuals attending. We are no longer on Facebook Live
or posting on Facebook. We will be recording our service
and then posting on our website edenchapelchurch on
Monday/Tuesday. If you have missed any of our worships
or Thoughts from Theophilus Puppet Plays, you will find
us on our website at edenchapelchurch. Make sure it is
this website because I have found that we are not the only
Eden Chapel Church in America! I
This Sunday, December 13 will be the 3rd Sunday of
Advent (Joy) at Eden Chapel. The sermon scripture is 1
John 3: 1-3 with the title being “Your Heavenly Father".
Our understanding of God is directly affected by how we
relate to our earthly dads. This is because our first aware-
ness of authority, love, provision, and security comes from
our parents (right or wrong, it's a fact). It is only natural
that how we perceive our parents would influence how we
view all of our relationships, including the One we have
with God. Regardless of whether you had a good father,
one who was abusive, or one who was absent, understand
that God the Father wants to have a loving relationship
with you and has gone to great lengths to provide it to you.
God will instruct you how to walk with Him step-by-step.
Consider what negative traits you may be attributing to
God because of your earthly relationships. Then discover
the truth about Him and you will find joy!
As always we are that church on the hill in the country
that you have been looking for but just keep driving by.
Please come out and enjoy a Sunday with us! Our Sunday
School starts at 9:30 am. and dismisses at 10:30 a.m.,
Morning Worship starts at 11 am. and concludes around
12 noon just in time for lunch. Our fellowship time is from
10:30 am. until 11 am. so come share some coffee, juice
and donuts with us. We are located at the corner of 92nd
Street and South Fairgrounds road right outside of Perkins.

Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 7, 1941, a day that lived “in
infamy,” awakened a sleeping giant. Thanks tovour
grandfathers and mothers and great grandfathers and
mothers for answering the call to preserve our freedom
at home and abroad!
We continue to be grateful to praise and worship
the One who brings hope and peace. Rita and Gale
Cavanaugh sang a favorite hymn “What a Friend We
Have in Jesus” before the sermon for those who came
to celebrate Jesus as Savior and Lord 011 Sunday.
Brother Steve Hawley’s message “How to Live an
Exciting Life” was from Isaiah 9:6. We remember that
when Jesus aSCended to the Father, He promised to send
a comforter, the Holy Spirit, 'to live in His believers

THE JOURNAL, Thursday, December 10, 2020 - BS
always. What is that like to live in the Holy Spirit,
Jesus living in us? It starts with the Person of Christ
and the meaning of His name: Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace. Won-
derful: what is true wonder, Psalm 8:1-9? True wonder
has depth, it is not shallow; it has value, not cheap
entertainment; it creates humility, Matthew 18:3-4; it
possesses the whole person, all of who we are. Why
is there little wonder now? We live in a mechanical,
commercial, busy and artificial world. We are a busy
world trying to be successful, making a living instead
of making a life. What have we given up to do just
that? “Stop and smell the roses” arose from the “little
wonder” world reminding us that the world‘s stuff still
leaves us empty.
Jesus IS Wonderful! There is meaning in His birth:
He came to live among us. His life on earth was extraor-
dinary and gave evidence He was the Messiah by 35
separate miraculous events. His Words of life told us
how to live and get to heaven. He came to die for me
personally and you personally! He came to give eternal
life by His resurrection I Corinthians 15:20-22. Some,
of us do not get past the baby in the manger or even
the crucified Christ nailed to the Cross. The Persbn of
Christ is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of
Peace and He knows my name!

Christian Church of Perkins-
By Judith Riden
Your needs and My riches are a perfect fit. I never meant
for you to be self-sufficient. Instead, I designed you to
need Me not only for daily bread but also for fulfillment
of deep yearnings.,l carefully crafted your longings and
feelings of incompleteness, to point you to Me. Therefore,
do not try to bury or deny these feelings. Beware of also
trying to pacify these longings with lesser gods: people,
possessions, power. Come to Me in all your neediness,
with defenses down and with desire to be blessed. As
you spend time in My Presence, your deepest longings
are fulfilled. Rejoice in your neediness, which enables
you to find intimate completion in Me. Philippians 4:19,
Colossians 2:2-3
Our sermon next Sunday is “Songs of Christmas” from
Luke 1-2 by Howard Faerber.
Continue to pray for our country, our community, and a
special prayer for our students and parents as we work to
i get through distance learning. Also pray for our teachers
as they continue to teach over the computer.

Blessings overflowing last week. Friday evening music
_ recital showcased lots of talent from young people. Sat-
urday morning we gave away grOceries, hams, and toys to
100 or more families. Then, real live church on Sunday.
God is so good! ‘
Scripture from Isaiah read by Nick was prophesying
the coming of Christ. Then Pastor Tiner shared scripture
about how God used ordinary people to tell the story of
Christ’s birth — Zechariah, J oesph, and most importantly,
lowly Mary the mother of Christ. A good example of how
He can use us to fulfill , -
His plans. Thank you Lord for including ordinary people
as I. Amen . ‘
A challenge for the rest of December - look at the book
of Psalm 119. Notice it is laid out in sections of eight
verses, Psalm 119:1 through 119:176. Each eight verse
section stars with a letter from the Hebrew alphabet - 21
sets. So that’s enough sections to take you right up to
Christmas! Start now, this week. Thank you Lord for your
words of enlightenment.
A dear sweet sister in Christ was laid to rest with a beau-
tiful memorial service Friday at church. Another sweet
sister'was laid to rest not long ago. We want to keep their
husbands and families in our prayers for comfort and love.
Call them or sendcards of comfort. We love all of you.
This was the first Sunday to celebrate Christ with com-
munion this season. Remember Jesus is the real reason
for the wonderful Christmas season.
Several events coming up: Family Sunday — grab a gift
card and pass it on to a friend, surprising someone in need,
or buy gifts of dinner items for a neighbor. Come and join
us in these events and feel the Christmas Spirit moving.
Praying for all the ones felling ill, anxious about the
times, being in lockdown (A good time to read a Psalm
each day). Call someone, send a card, wear a smile behind .
the mask — others will know and maybe smile back.
God is still in control of this whole world — He’s got us
all in His loving arms.

MARRIAGE, DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE (con-
tinued); For one more installment, let’s discuss a little
more the need for background studies in order to under-
stand the Bible and, especially, what it says about difficult
and controversial subjects like marriage and divorce.
In the last letter from the Apostle Paul that we have in the
New Testament, he wrote this request to Timothy: “When
you come, bring. .. my scrolls, especially the parchments”
